The City of Toronto announces a new tool for Tenants to provide meaningful information to prevent evictions. We encourage residents to view the City of Toronto Website – Rental Housing and Tenant Information www.toronto.ca/renterhelp The City’s staff and Tenant Advisory Committee have worked with persons with lived experience, legal clinics and tenant advocate groups to navigate the difficult process to avoid potential evictions. This page provides information on tenant rights, tenants supports (including the Toronto Rent Bank), how to find housing and information about the RentSafeTO program.
On the City Website – Under the Tab – Understand and Fight Evictions you will also find information and links to the the new Eviction Prevention Toolkit : https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/housing-shelter/rental-housing-tenant-information/understand-fight-evictions.
City staff are promoting the tool kit as it “outlines the eviction process, tenant’s rights in the process, outlines what the difference between an eviction notice versus an eviction order and resources to assist to fight an eviction. The document also provides tools such as sample letters to use to communicate with your landlord. Hard copies of this toolkit have been circulated to Councillor, MPP and MP offices.”
