CDCP Dental Coverage – Are You Covered? Don’t Forget to Renew!
By: Kimber-lee Wargalla, Community Outreach Co-Ordinator, Advocacy Centre for the Elderly
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is making dental care more affordable for eligible Canadians. If you have not applied yet, or are already enrolled, here’s what you need to know:
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
✔ You don’t have access to dental insurance
✔ Have filed your tax returns for the previous year
✔ You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes
✔ Individuals or couples with a net annual income under $70,000 – Full coverage or between $70,000 and $90,000 – Partial coverage
Already receiving dental benefits through a government program? You may still qualify. The CDCP will coordinate with your existing plan to avoid any overlap or gaps.
ANNUAL RENEWAL REQUIRED: RENEW YOUR CDCP COVERAGE
Starting March 2025, the Government of Canada will reassess current CDCP clients to confirm continued eligibility. If you are already covered, you will need to renew your application to maintain benefits for the next year.
To continue receiving benefits under the CDCP, you must renew your coverage each year by June 1. If you do not renew or are no longer eligible, your coverage will end on June 30.
Once you have filed your tax return and received your Notice of Assessment, you can renew your coverage as follows:
✔ Online via the Government of Canada website or My Service Canada Account (MSCA)
✔ Phone (Call Centre Officer or Interactive Response System)
✔ In Person at a Service Canada location
