DESCRIPTION:Tell City Council to Fund our City!\nOn February 11\, Toronto City Council will be voting on the 2025 City Budget. Social Planning Toronto and partners are organizing a community rally outside City Hall to let Council know this is no time for cuts. \nThis year’s proposed budget includes increased investments into vital community services such as affordable housing\, transit\, and a student nutrition program\, but this funding won’t be guaranteed unless City Council votes to support it. It’s time to send a strong message: we need to fund a city where everyone can thrive. \nEvent details:\nFebruary 11\, 2025\n12 PM – 1 PM\nNathan Phillips Square\n100 Queen St. W \nCity Hall\, front doors \nAccessibility information and further guidelines for attendees:\n\nASL interpretation is available.\nThe event will be outdoors. Please dress for the weather. You will be able to go inside City Hall if you need to warm up.\nThe rally officially starts at 12 noon. We are inviting everyone to join us on-site at 11:45 AM for hot chocolate and sign making. You are welcome to bring your own sign.\nWe will be meeting near the entrance of City Hall. Please take care to not block the entrance\, and allow for people to freely enter and exit City Hall for the duration of the event.\nLimited outdoor seating will be available. Indoor seating and accessible washrooms are available inside City Hall. You do not need permission to use the washrooms.\nHot chocolate and snacks will be served on site. Vegan and vegetarian snacks will be available (unfortunately\, the snacks will not be gluten-free). Please help yourself to refreshments from our volunteers!\nThis is a free\, public event. RSVPs will help us plan\, but are not required.\nThis is a peaceful gathering. DESCRIPTION:February 25\, 2025 at 12:00 pm \nZoom registration: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/8017398970493/WN_8pKP-zeeS–s-_0upfJHvw#/registration \nJoin the Income Security Advocacy Centre on February 25\, 2025\, at our Provincial Election Forum on Income Security. \nThe Forum will include panelists Aislinn Clancy (Green Party)\, John Fraser (Liberal Party)\, and Lise Vaugeois (NDP). Michael Parsa from the Progressive Conservative Party has also been invited. \nThe Forum will be moderated by Kat Eschner\, a science and business journalist based in Toronto\, who writes and produces television on current affairs\, affordability issues\, and disinformation\, for TVO. \nPanelists will be asked questions on their party’s positions on a range of income security-related policies; on systemic issues facing low waged workers and people receiving social assistance; and their plans on eliminating poverty for people in Ontario. \nThis is a public event but we are prioritizing attendance for community legal clinic clients and staff. The Forum will be recorded and posted to our website shortly afterwards.
