Don Valley Community Legal Services Launch

Saturday September 28th was an exciting day for the newly amalgamated Don Valley Community Legal Services.  Although a wet and misty afternoon, we celebrated our clinic with an outdoor street festival with welcoming and warm remarks from Charles Harnick, Chair (LAO Board), Rob Oliphant, MP Don Valley West; Peter Tabuns, MPP, Toronto Beaches; Rima Berns-McGowan, MPP, Beaches East York;  and the Chair of our Board Kirk Cooper.  The festival continued with a Lion Dance of good luck from North Feet South Feet Martial Arts Group, dances from the seniors dance group of East View Neighbourhood Community Services and music with Elana Harte and friends.  Celebrations included a cake cutting ceremony, bubbles and free children books donated by Frontier College.  We also thank Health Access for setting up an Election Pop Up as part of our Civic Engagement activity.

The highlight of our festival included a community vote on our new logo.  The winning choice is now part of our Website headers.  Thank you to Ms. Molly Fraser, a student of York University for her design options.  The logo colours of green and blue symbolize the Don Valley as our combined identity bringing the two communities together through an orderly and peaceful energy.  The imagery of the Don River with a sunburst provides an impression of hope and positivity.

Moving forward, the amalgamated corporation, Don Valley Community Legal Services, continues the work of both clinics, under one umbrella.  Don Valley Community Legal Services, funded by Legal Aid Ontario, and governed by a local board of directors ensure the clinic’s work is guided by input from the community. With this hope and positivity we move forward with our services.
